How much do you value love for the child above genetic affinity?

So many issues with technology like IVF. As a parent, how much do you value genetic affinity? The courts value it at 30% of the cost of upbringing a child. From a spiritual perspective, is it right to say that parents should bear full cost irregardless of genetic affinity? Rightly so I believe as God allowed the spirit of the child to be born into this world, not that he should be blamed for He is perfect but the mix up is due to our fallen nature. He destined the parents to nuture that precious soul irregardless of genetic affinity. Abortion should not be an option to consider in this case.

A Passive Prayer

The Kingdom of his Son shall know no end!

Colossians 1:9-14 ESV

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may

be filled (passive => God to fill us)

with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, [10]

so as to (result)

walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; [11] being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; [12] giving thanks to the Father,

who has (prize)

qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. [13] He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,[14]

in whom

(the narrow path of Christ) we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The Glorious Prize

Philippians 3:7-11 ESV

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. [8] Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ [9] and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith- [10] that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, [11] that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Philippians 3:20-21 ESV

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, [21] who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Run the Race or Stand Firm with Armor of God? Run with light Armor!

Ephesians 6:13-18 ESV

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. [14]

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, [15] and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace

[16] In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; [17] and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

[18]praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, [19] and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, [20] for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Belt fastens garment to body, Truth of God – Belt of truth fastens covering(anoiting) of Christ

Breastplate protects the heart, righteousness from Christ – Righteousness because of Christ protects our hearts

45,000 denominations that rose from the Reformation

This article shows the amazing ability of how the gospel reached diversity in the world today and the origins of the reformation with love and fellowship within the body of Christ, with each believer having direct access to scripture, affirming “priesthood of all believers” yest posessing unity in Christ and fellowship, mostly.

Alpha Course / NAR

Although this article is a critic on the Aplha course, I learnt that the course is targeted multi denominational so it cannot go to depths of discussion, which obviously some ppl will not accept. Secondly, its power is in the alpha weekend or Holy Spirit weekend, emphasizing on the supernatural experiences of the Holy Spirit, like miracles, in line with the NAR movement.

Seems like there is two opposing camps in Christianity – NAR side and the orthodox side. I pray for unity of mind and spirit among Christians as the division within the body of Christ is unhealthy towards unbelievers.

Bill Johnson – Transformed mind sees Kingdom of God / Bethel Church

Introduction to Bethel Church, Bill Johnson – forefront of NAR

Critics: (By Tony Miano against NAR (C. Peter Wagner), Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton, mentioned Matt Slick on his side)

Forums of discourse on Bethel Church

Bill Johnson’s Sermon on the renewed mind –

Learnt its about having faith in God for him to work through me as vessles for his glory, that he enables what he commands. The more it is impossible in what I do, the more he gets the glory.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.  For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 12:1‭-‬8 ESV

Another sermon

After reading critics on Bill Johnson and listening to his sermon, I still find his sermons refreshing to listen to.

He also rebukes those he cannot approve i.e Jason Westerfield who turned new age.

In 2008, Jason Westerfield wrote his testimony. God worked through him but his heart changed. His testimony conclusion did not reflect very well and showed greed for money.
He turned New Age and resulted in Bill Johnson rebuking him

Praying for his restoration like Benny Hinn and Paula White.

Its interesting to note some not so common practices attributed to them

Bethel Church (Kris explain Bethel Church)

Purpose of the Church

Ephesians 4:11-16 ESV

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, [12] to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, [13] until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, [14] so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. [15] Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, [16] from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Preach to Reap in His Time

One sows to the Spirit (one does good by preacheing to build faith) => One reaps from the Spirit (one receives life eternal – something good, i.e. here on earth [salvation] or there in heaven [the great reward])

Galatians 6:6-10 ESV

Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. [7] Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. [8] For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. [9] And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. [10] So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Crucified Passions of Flesh, Spirit Living

Called to freedom in Christ (redeemtion) implies live by Spirit not flesh => obtain fruits of Spirit => ability to not live by flesh (previously unattainable)

Galatians 5:13-26 ESV

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. [14] For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [15] But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. [16] But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. [17] For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. [18] But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. [19] Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, [20] idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, [21] envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. [22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. [24] And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. [25] If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. [26] Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

The Logic of the Law and the Redeemer

Person 1 – Cursed without  Jesus

Verse 10 = Rely on works-> cannot abide by law and do ALL as required -> if so, law says person is cursed (includes everyone apart from Christ)

Verse 11 = live by faith -> righteous (includes no one apart from Christ)

Verse 12 = those described in verse 10 and verse 11 are mutually exclusive. Therefore, Inverse of verse 11 = not live by faith -> Not righteous.

Combining Verse 10 & inverse of verse 11, rely on works (not live by faith in Jesus)-> cannot abide by law and do ALL as required -> if so, law says person is cursed or not righteous (includes everyone apart from Christ)

Person 2 – Blessed with Jesus

Rule of Redemtion => You can be redeemed, but with equivalent price – see the Israelite law and book of Ruth for example of redemtion). The reedeemer must be unblemish (unblemished lamb). The reedemer must be a person, in flesh and blood. The redeemer is to be cursed. Law says whoever hung on the tree is cursed. Thus, Jesus fufills the logic and is an approved reedemer of our souls.

Inverse logic of verse 11 and verse 12: live by faith in Jesus (not rely on works)->  Jesus redeemed us from the curse ->Justified before God-> receive blessings of Abraham -> received the promised spirit -> empowered to love

Galatians 3:10-14 ESV

For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” [11] Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” [12] But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” [13] Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us-for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”- [14] so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Holiness of God causes Dispropotionate Response of Repentance

To see God’s holiness is to see His goodness. Because he is perfect, its pure goodness and is an absolute and perfect measure of the heart. A little evil in one’s heart will be greatly magnified to negative infinity, causing a dispropotionately repentive response – realisation of utter depravity of our soul. This was Isaiah’s response. He was thus totally sold out to God thereafter, to also call others to a similar repentance.

I see His holiness and the train of glory, filling my unclean body, taking my guilt and sin away – he calls and sends, I answer and obey because of His grace and mercy.

Have you seen His glory?

Isaiah 6:1-13 ESV

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. [2] Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. [3] And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” [4] And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. [5] And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” [6] Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. [7] And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” [8] And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” [9] And he said, “Go, and say to this people: “‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ [10] Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” [11] Then I said, “How long, O Lord?” And he said: “Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is a desolate waste, [12] and the LORD removes people far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. [13] And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed is its stump.

By myself I can’t – With Him I can!

Our hearts, prayer and hope, to run the race, our glory

The Spirit’s help in our weaknesses

Confirm into the image of Christ

God’s Love, Will, Purpose, Predestination

What can seperate us from the love of Christ?

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:26‭-‬39 ESV

Cleansed Heart Renewed Spirit

Circumcise my heart O Lord by your Spirit and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation.

But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

Romans 2:29 ESV

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.  Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

God is here and now – everywhere, in all situations

There is no area where God is not present. Challenge for me to know God intimately and walk in him.

O Lord , you have searched me and known me!  You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.  You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.  Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord , you know it altogether.  You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.  Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?  If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!  If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,  even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.  If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,”  even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.  For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.  How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!  If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.

Psalms 139:1‭-‬5‭, ‬7‭-‬18 ESV

Summary of Article:

Everything in my life can be a stepping stone to holiness.

But in God’s economy, being blessed takes on a wholly new meaning. We are blessed when we have no resources. When we have nothing to turn to. No one to rely on. When nothing is going well. That is when God and his rule increases in our life. There is less of us. And more of God. And when we lose what is most dear to us, we value God’s embrace even more. And his embrace is more dear, more precious, more spectacular than anything we could possibly have lost.

Learning about Bethel Church & School of Supernatural Ministry

When I look at things happening around me, I desire to learn more about God, leave no stone unturned – while I can.

A Christian’s Journey to Bethel Church

New Church – A Subtle, Dangerous and Mystical Christian Cult

I chanced upon these websites of the New Church.

Felt nothing strange at first but abit wierd so I decided to search wiki and realised they rejected all the Christian creeds. They are ready to pounce on and consume unsuspecting victims. Appearance can truely be deceiving.

Before the New Church can be received, the doctrines of the older churches must be exposed in the open and rejected.

This is because the faith of the New Church is so opposite to the doctrines of the older Christian churches that they cannot coexist

As commented by studylight,

We need not expect the Last Judgment for it has Already taken place; it was held in 1757 in Swedenborg’s presence.

This is in direct contradiction to the bible when Jesus says no one will know the time of his coming.

But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Matthew 24:36 ESV

Also confirmed by CARM,

This is a dangerous mystical non-Christian religion. Its denial of the Trinity and the Holy Spirit, the vicarious atonement, and rejection of Acts and the Pauline epistles clearly set it outside of Christian orthodoxy.

Can you identify that this is a cult of Christianity? If not, you’re on dangerous grounds.

The Bible compared to other ancient writings

These ancient writings can suppliment or contradict the bible but gives some world view of the ancient world. Some are in the biblical canon while others are not. Have no time to critique them yet but hope to do it one day within my 100 years of possible existence:) Some used in  biblical commentaries. Just need to be farmiliar with the scholarly world. For those who have not read through the bible before, suggest you read it first before these non authoritative texts.

Google may frame, shape and distort how we see the world

Try searching “Did the Holocaust really happen?” in google. What is the top 5 impression of answers? 3 No and 2 Yes. So did it or did it not happen? I’m not highlighting any arguments but first impression counts and google does provide much first impressions. The main thing is that google is not authoriative and will search for truth and lies. I agree with the article title that Google may frame, shape and distort how we see the world. What do you use google for?

Christmas and fairy tales – Santa can stay

A good article on how fictional stories can enhance understanding of Christ. Especially true with one of the greatest authors of our times – C.S Lewis. There’s something about Santa and giving, relating to its origins from St Nichloas and his spirit of giving, and I shouldn’t throw my kid’s soft toy of santa out of the window!

Precious Desire

What do I desire? What makes me happy?  I desire to be loved, cherished, valued and esteemed. What’s good is perceived externally through my body sensory experience (sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch), emotions and hormones.  In the same way, the same can be said about my worth and how others perceive me. These experiences passes into my mind and satisfies my heart’s desires. The bible says that God made everything good, including me!

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

GEN 1:31 ESV

Some desires are good for my well being while others are not. Sin came into the world through satan’s temptation, causing me to have desires contrary to God’s commands, like lust.

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

Genesis 3:6 ESV

In our world, the value or worth of a thing or person that we perceive is tied closely with our heart’s desires, and the higher the desire, the harder to get. The world found a way out of it using money to measure these values and desires. Isn’t this economics? Demand and supply – the higher the demand, the lower the supply, the greater the cost, well at least most of the time. A heightened level of desire for a thing or person requires a substantial amount of effort and wealth to obtain it. These desires can often trap us unknowingly and the bible cautions us about it.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

1 John 2:15‭-‬17 ESV

The bible isn’t far off to state that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

1 Timothy 6:10 ESV

Rather than valuing life through money and wealth, God calls us to know and value him more than anything and everything else in this world, and to fear him. We cannot serve both God and money.

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and  money.

Matthew 6:24 ESV

To fear the Lord and obey Jesus is more important than our desires. Sometimes it does not make sense and may not be logical from our perspective. But let us consider God’s thoughts and his love for us.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:9 ESV

There is so much to know about God from the bible. Where do we begin? First, fear God, thats where we start.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:7 ESV

Let us learn be aware that there is a God who values us as his child when we hear and obey his voice. May you fear God and he will value you to be beautiful in his sight.

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Proverbs 31:30 ESV

Only God matters when we pass away,

Trust and obey Jesus Christ today.

Celebrating Advent

As we celebrate advent this Christmas, we remember that God planned the birth of Jesus from the beginning of creation. I like to share with you the beauty of  the good news about Jesus, the prophecy of his coming, his birth, his life, his death and his resurrection, through mindmaps from the bible. Mindmaps help to highlight some aspect of the beautiful hebrew poety.

I used the Word English Bible as it is in the PublicDomain (not copyrighted) at the images to enlarge. Enjoy this Christmas and know Jesus today!

Men are tempted to lust, women are tempted to be lust after

Lord Jesus rescue my souls from the firey pit and far away from temptation. Let your  loving embrace lead my heart into a deep desire to do your will. I thirst for your streams of living water and eternal pleasures at your right hand – into your arms I’m so secure.

Many of the resouces online nowadays especially on search engines and social media comes in bits and peices, at a price or unreliable. There are most prob harder to find “hidden gems” articles and resources in the internet which are more reliable and exhaustive, and tools which can help lay christians to soar from “zero to hero”, a kind of self-help for those who cannot or are not willing to pay for content. Good to make good gospel resources free for all. Sometimes, creating content also helps in our thought processes and we can “sharpen each other”. This initiative is by no means substitution for fellowship in bag and church, more to suppliment and build Christians in this age of digital media.

Diversity in deed, unity in spirit

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.  For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.  The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.  Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.

What am I becoming?

What then is my reward? That in my preaching I may present the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.  For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.  Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
